Sorry folks, I am going to have to cancel practice tonight. Unfortunately I am have to stick around work until 5:45 today and Austin is sick today.  This might just be a blessing (the catalyst to cancel practice, not Austin’s illness) as I kept an eye on when it got too dark to play Sunday and by my account it was too dark by 5:55 pm. That would have only given us 25 minutes.

Sorry for the late notice. See you Saturday. Speaking of, I put an email into the Commish about possibly moving our 1:00 pm game to 9:00 am. Would that work for everyone if we can arrange it?

Lesson Learned

We need to start practice next week at 5:30 because it is dark by 6:10. In fact if you can arrive any earlier go ahead and start the kids dribbling. I am going to try to get there before 5:30 but may not be able to.

As for the post game ceremony this week, the parentdile consensus was medals and pizza at the Felini's in Decatur--333 Commerce Drive. We will head over right after our 11:00 game.

Go Soccerdiles.

Practice Tuesday Starting at 5:45 pm

I don’t know about you, but when I look out the window at 6:30 pm yesterday it was dark, too dark to practice.

While I know not everyone will be able to make it, I am planning to start practice at 5:45 pm going forward and we will practice as long as we can. Arrive when you can. I just fear if we start at 6:00 pm we would only get 20 minutes of practice in.

Rainout Rescheduled

The rainout from last weekend has been rescheduled for Sat, Nov. 19th. It will take place at its original scheduled time of 1:00.  These changes have been updated on the official schedule: http://www.quickscores.com/Orgs/PrintSchedule.php?OrgDir=ddymca&LeagueID=279653&TeamID=2142316

Trophies, medals, or a pat-on-the-back

Sorry to hear the game was rained out but it provides us a chance to address some team business.

At the end of the year the YMCA provides coaches with information and costs for a recommended trophy distributor that works with the YMCA. The cost of a year-end trophy or medal for the kids is not included in league costs; however, they are usually pretty reasonable. This year being no exception:

3.25 for medals
5.25 for trophies

If everyone is onboard with purchasing an award for the kids I would recommend the medals. They take up less space, cannot be used as easily as a weapon against a sibling or parent yet elicit the same giddy response from the kids as a trophy would. If anyone is not onboard please let me know; otherwise, I will place an order for the team next Tuesday after practice and we can settle up later.

Game Cancelled for Today

With all the rain last night, the fields are closed and the game is canceled for today. We'll see you at practice on Tuesday night. Happy Halloween!

Practice Cancelled. Stay Dry

Just got word that Columbia fields are closed. Drive safely. See you Saturday.

FW: U7 Boys Pictures this Sat, Oct. 22nd!

From the commish. Start working on your smiles.
_________________
U7 Boys Coaches,

Picture day is here! All U7 Boys teams will take pictures this Saturday, October 22nd. Attached is the picture schedule. Also I am attaching a pdf of the order form and price list so you can forward onto your parents to review before Saturday. Be sure to remind your parents to bring their purses or wallets as money is due at the time of the order.

1. Please pass this information onto your parents and support the effort!! The photo company will make a donation to the DDY scholarship fund at the end of the season based on participation. So encourage parents to participate - by purchasing a photo of their son or daughter they are helping a child who normally couldn't afford it to play soccer the next season.

2. Coaches, please be supportive of the picture taking process and show up with your team at the designated time to take a team photo. Remember all coaches receive a free team picture at the end of the season as a gift. Please make sure to notate that you are a coach on your order form so they can include the free picture with any order you may purchase.

3. Picture day can sometimes be a little hectic so please be patient. Unfortunately we are on a tight game schedule on the U7 boys field so if your game starts late then you will need to shorten your game time. To make things go faster please do all warm-ups on the side lines either before or after your pictures (depending on your picture time). Once pictures are finished for both teams, they will need to take the field and start the game right away to stay on time. I realize this can be disturbing to some coaches, but pictures are memories for years to come so they are an important part of the season. If one game is cut a few minutes short due to pictures, no one will remember 5 years from now, but a picture will always be there to be remembered.

4. If you have not received a new coach's shirt please let me know with the size needed so I can have it at the field for you on Saturday.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks and see you on the field!

Final Snack Schedule

Oct 1 – Adam’s Family

Oct 8 – Quint’s Family

Oct 15 – Luke’s family

Practice and Game Schedule

A number of our kids attend schools that are on a balanced schedule. As luck would have it they are off this week for fall break and several are traveling. Nonetheless I would still like to host what will turn out to be a small practice for those that are still around. I want to do this because the soccer schedule is out and our first game is this Saturday at 12:00. We will be playing at the Westchester School field located on Scott Blvd.

A link to our full schedule can be found under useful links on the right.

If you have not already picked up the new DD YMCA soccer uniform, please do so this week. Just take your registration receipt to Krown Sports located near Your Dekalb Farmers’ Market.

Soccerdiles Practice Tomorrow

Our first practice is this Tuesday at 6:00. We will be practicing at Columbia Theological Seminary on their "big field". This is not the same field we have practiced on in past seasons, but close. You can access the field by either parking on Inman Dr. and walking through the trees to the field or parking behind the library (also accessible from Inman).

Parentdiles,

I just received the Soccerdiles roster for the fall semester. Your fall 2011 Soccerdiles are:

  • Luke Enfinger
  • William Johnson
  • Jack Manion
  • Miles Moorfield
  • Quint Stein
  • Adam Tewell

Welcome to our new teammates including the fighting Silver Comet boys (as this is the first year that the league is no longer coed Coach Eshan and myself arranged to keep our boys and girls together—my girls joined the Silver Comets and his boys joined the Soccerdiles).

I will have more information shortly about practice time, uniforms, and hopefully a schedule, but considering the short notice this week I am not planning to host a practice Tuesday. Our team and individual pictures will be this Saturday at 11:00. We will be at picture station number 2. Let's plan on meeting at the photo station and then after the pictures going to our field (which is number 1). Picture Day is Sat, April 30th!

From the Commish. Have the kids start practicing their smile.

>>> Kathy Meyer-Frisbey <KathyF@ymcaatlanta.org> 4/15/2011 12:34 PM >>>
Coaches,
Just a heads up that pictures for the Micro age group will be Saturday, April 30th. I will send out the picture schedule in the next week. I am attaching a pdf of the picture envelope and order form so you can forward on to your parents to review. Parents can view the different items that are available for purchase and the prices and then fill out the order form and print out and bring with them. Remind your parents to bring their purses or wallets on picture day as payment is required at the time of order. Also we will hand out picture envelopes on the field on Saturday to all coaches so you can give out hard copies to your parents also.

Pictures are fun and very entertaining for the little ones. Please promote the picture process and encourage parents to participate. Please remind them that the photography company will donate a portion of proceeds back to the Soccer department for scholarships for players the next season. By participating in pictures they are helping to scholarship a future player!

Also all coaches will receive a free team photo for volunteering!

If you have any questions please let me know. Thanks.

Fwd: Traffic Alert for Winnona Park Field & Pending Weather.....

Another note from the Commish:

>>> Kathy Meyer-Frisbey <KathyF@ymcaatlanta.org> 4/15/2011 1:24 PM >>>
Coaches,
Heads up - Winnona Park Homeowners association is having a neighborhood garage sale tomorrow, Saturday, April 16th. This will cause extra traffic in the area during soccer games. Please pass along this information to your parents and warn them that they will need extra time for parking and may have to park farther away than normal tomorrow.

Pending Weather - We are expecting big storms tonight in the Atlanta area. Will we have soccer games in the morning? It all depends on how much RAIN we receive tonight. If not too much then we will play on. If we get a substantial amount then we will either DELAY games by an hour or two to let fields dry out - or CANCEL games all together. Which means we will have to add another weekend to the schedule. Jr. Micros and Micros already have games scheduled on May 14th so we would have to go to May 21st. I am trying to avoid this so we will try to play if possible. Be sure to check the Weather Hotline or Soccer Website if you are not on Status Me. I will make the decision by 7:45 am and will have all things updated by 8:00 am.

DDY Soccer Program to participate in Shoebox Project!!

Please find below a note by the Commish. If you are interested in participating I would be happy to gather the boxes at practice and/or the games. If you have questions please direct them to Kathy or Rachel.
tkm

Coaches,
We have a great opportunity for you and your team to give back to the community and raise money for the DDY Soccer Scholarship Program. Comcast has partnered with the United way on their annual Shoebox project. For this project, we are collecting decorated boxes filled with toiletries for homeless women and children in our community. For each box that you wrap and fill, Comcast will donate a volunteer grant to the soccer program. If everyone participates, we have an opportunity to raise over $3000 for the program! (115 Rec Teams, 15 Academy teams, and 3 Select teams - if every team donated just two boxes we could raise over $3000!!)

This is a great way to get involved in the community and raise money for the DDY Soccer program. Please help by participating and spreading the word. There is no limit to how many boxes each team or child/family can donate. Everyone in the family is welcome to participate, and every box will count towards the grant that Comcast will donate to the YMCA.

Please fill, wrap and bring your boxes into the YMCA by May 4th. Coaches can collect boxes at practices and games and give to YMCA Soccer staff at games or bring to the soccer office at the YMCA.

See below for items needed and specifics.

Please call or email Kathy Meyer-Frisbey or Rachel Ozias with any questions.

Practice Tuesday

Weather permitting, I am going to hold soccer practice this Tuesday at 5:30. I know people may be traveling for spring break. If so, I am jealous; have fun. This practice is voluntary and just an opportunity for the kids that are still around to kick the ball around rather than going two weeks without soccer. Practice will be at our same practice field at Columbia Theological Seminary fields.

Soccer Practice Canceled Today

Field: Columbia Seminary Soccer Fields is CLOSED
Note: Field too wet
This action was taken by: Kathy Frisbey at Mar 29, 2011 1:44:11 PM

That being said, I would like to offer to host soccer practice next week for anyone that will be around. Technically we are off that week for spring break; however, I think it would be worthwhile to still kick the ball around. Do not feel you have to come but if you are around and want the little ones expend a little energy, please join us.

Again, practice tonight is canceled but we are going to have practice next week if you are around.

Game Today Likely Canceled

Soccerdiles Unite

Welcome back Soccerdiles (and parentdiles). I would especially like to welcome new teammates, Tyra and Bailey. Glad to have you join the team.

We are officially practicing Tuesdays, 5:30 to 6:15 at Columbia Seminary field #2. We will start practicing next week. I would like to apologize I did not get things together to start this week. The practice location is just a few blocks South (on South Columbia) from Winnona Elementary fields where we used to play our games.

The game schedule has not been posted yet; however, our first game is March 12. The time has yet to be determined.

I will maintain the Soccerdile website where I will post league links, pictures, and what-have-you: http://soccerdiles.blogspot.com/

Start dribbling.
