Great Season

I want thank all the Soccerdiles and Parentdiles for a great season. The kids really showed a lot of progress this season and were just a great group generally. I would also like to thank everyone for the gift certificate to Mac McGee's. Between their whiskey and beer selections, I am sure that I will ind a way to enjoy the gift. Thanks again.

Sandra (Diana's mom) and Jay (Nia's dad) will be coaching a basketball team in the DDY's 6 and under league. All are welcome to join. It was a lot of fun last year.

One last thing (and this may be hard to believe but) early registration for Spring Soccer 2011 starts Nov. 15th!! Early registration fee will be a lower fee than regular registration so early birds will be rewarded this year! I am planning coaching in the spring and invite everyone to come back.

Keep dribbling.

Snacks for Saturday

I do not think we have a volunteer to bring snacks for tomorrow game. If you are already planning to bring snacks or if you are willing to, please let me know.

Pictures Next Week

First off, our game tomorrow is at 9:00 on Renfroe field 3. We will be wearing blue.

Team pictures for the Micro age group (ours) will be next Saturday, October 23rd at Renfroe Middle School. An actual schedule for the pictures (before or after the game) will be coming out shortly. I am attaching a pdf of the picture envelope-- so you can get a sense of the options. Also DDYMCA will hand out picture envelopes on the field that Saturday.

The photography company does donate a portion of proceeds back to the Soccer department for scholarships for players the next season. By participating in pictures we help fund scholarships for the soccer program.

If you will be out next Saturday, you can go and take individual photos this Saturday, October 16th with the Jr. Micro age group at Winnona Park.

Tuesday Practice at Winnona Park Elementary

Columbia Seminary practice field will be closed on Tues, Oct. 5th due to a special event the School will be having on the field that evening. Consequently we will be moving to Winnona Park Elementary School field for the evening. We cannot displace any team that usually practices there, so we will be grabbing a corner of the field where no one else is and practicing.

See you at Winnona ( where we used to play on Saturdays).

Soccerdile Practice Tomorrow (9/14)

Just a reminder that we have practice tomorrow at 6:00. We will be practicing at the Columbia Seminary fields on Inman Dr. --right off of South Columbia Dr.

Unfortunately I will not be there, but Madden, my wife, will be running practice. She is much tougher than I am, so tell the kids to be ready to run. If anyone would like to help put, I am sure she would welcome it.

Go Soccerdiles.

Soccerdiles Unite

Welcome back Soccerdiles (and parentdiles). I would especially like to welcome new teammates, Hannah, Theo, and Peyton. Glad to have you all join the team.

We are officially practicing Tuesdays, 6:00 to 6:45 at Columbia Seminary field #2; however, there is no practice tonight. We will be starting next week. The practice location is just a few blocks South (on South Columbia) from Winnona Elementary fields where we used to play our games. The Micros are being relocated to another field-- most likely Renfoe however that has not been confirmed yet.

I will email more later in the week ( I just returned from a long weekend) but as before I will maintain the Soccerdile website where I will post league links, pictures, and what-have-you: http://soccerdiles.blogspot.com/

Soccerdile Fall Updates

Looking forward to the new season. Having just attended the coaches meeting I have a few items to share (some items more disappointing than others):

1. Micro games (our new league) is being relocated to another field- most likely Renfroe Middle School, but that has not been finalized.
2. This is the last year for our current uniforms. The Y will be having new uniform designs soon. If you can get through the next two seasons (fall and spring) with your current uniform do so. We all will need to purchase new ones next fall.
3. Games will start the weekend of Sept 18
4. Parent orientation is Tuesday Sept 7 at 7:00 at the Y
5. Our practices will take place on Tuesdays at 6:00 for 45 minutes at Columbia Theology College (our same practice field). Our first practice will be Sept 7, 2010.
6. I will attend a scheduling meeting where will have more input as to what time our games will take place. After the meeting a final schedule will be

More later

The YMCA has a NEW online registration process. Our NEW online registration allows you to easily sign up for all YMCA programming from home. If you have any questions please call Kathy Frisbey at 404-371-3314 or email at kathyf@ymcaatlanta.org.

FYI - there is a neighborhood wide garage sale at Winnona Park area tomorrow. This is probably going to cause even more traffic problems. Please pass this onto your parents so they are prepared. Thanks.

Awards and Party After Game Saturday

Saturday is still scheduled to be our last game (although we should have another one to make up), so I would like to propose a potluck cook out and awards ceremony at my place immediately after the game. Madden, Jack, Tommy and I live at 894 Derrydown Way, Decatur Ga 30030. It's just on the other side of South Columbia from Winnona Park.

Madden and I will prepare hotdogs, brats, and hamburgers. The other essentials for a cookout include (and I welcome additions here):

crockpot type dish/es (mac and cheese, casserole, chili, backed beans, etc)
cold salads (Potato salads, pasta salads, tossed salads, etc.)
raw vegetables or fruit (watermelon is a necessity at all cookouts)
chips and dips (salsa, 7 layer, cheese-based, guacamole, crab, onion, etc.)
dessert (cookies, pies, crisps, etc.)
beverages (beer,wine cola, juice boxes)

Feel free to volunteer for any item that matches your skill level. Someone selecting a category does not mean someone else cannot choose that same category --just make sure you are not bringing the same thing( (unless they are oatmeal raisin cookies).

P.S. Don't forget we do have a game tomorrow (Tues. @ 6:00 on our practice field).

End of season awards

Good game Saturday. As the season begins to wind down, it is time again to decide how we want to celebrate the kids' efforts: trophies($5.25), medals($3.00), or something else. Personally I am a fan of medals (they take up less room and can all hang from the same hook), but I put it before the parents for a vote. If you want to respond to me I will tally the votes and make the order. See below a note from the commish and attached an image of the trophy and medal options.

>>> Kathy Meyer-Frisbey <KathyF@ymcaatlanta.org> 5/2/2010 6:44 PM >>>
Coaches,
Just a reminder that the YMCA no longer supplies trophies or medals. It is now the responsibility of the parents. Please consult with your team as to what the parents want to do - buy a trophy, buy a medal, make certificates, or something else. I am attaching a flyer from my trophy vendor. He has come up with a trophy and medal option for the season for the league. If you would like to purchase from him please fill out the form or email him. He will deliver items to the YMCA so all you will have to do is come by and pick up your box. If you have any questions please let me know. Thanks.

It started thundering and raining in Decatur. Practice canceled. Stay dry.

From the commish:

Picture Day Information

From the commish:

It was nice talking to many of you this week at practice when I dropped off the photo envelopes. Sorry to the teams who I missed! [this included the Soccerdiles-tkm] For those teams and any players who weren't at practice this week, I have attached a pdf of the photo envelope so parents can view the packages and prices. Remind parents that they need to bring their purse or wallet with them as they must pay for the pictures at the time of ordering.(checks, cash, and credit cards are accepted)

Just to clarify - this is a NEW photographer - TSS Photography. All players must be present to take a team photo - together at the same time. (No cutting and pasting individual pictures onto a team photo) Parents can fill out the photo envelope and Individual pictures can be taken while the team is waiting for all to arrive. Please give the new company a chance as they have a very good reputation.

Picture Day This Saturday @ 10:00

Picture day is this Saturday and while we have a 10:15 game our picture time is 10:00. These pictures will be more traditional team photographs, rather than individuals photos that are photshoped together after the fact (as done in recent years). This way everyone is in the photo which means everyone needs to be there to be in the photo.

So if the kids were thinking of getting a haircut or trying out eye black, this is the week to do it.

Back on Schedule

Just a reminder this week we are back on our regular soccer schedule with Tuesday practices at 6:05 and games Saturdays. This week's game is at 10:15 on field 6 and we will be wearing gray.

See you tonight.

I hope everyone can make it. It's a fun game that the kids really get a kick out of.

Next Two Games Posted

Game times for the next two weeks have been posted to the YMCA website. Unfortunately we have the late games 12:15 and 11:15, respectively. This hopefully means that we will have the earlier game times as it continues to get warmer.

You can view the Soccerdile schedule by clicking the schedule link on the right list of useful links ------------------------------------->

So I will see everyone this Saturday at 12:15 (despite what my earlier email said). Keep dribbling.

Soccerdiles Unite

Welcome back Soccerdiles (and parentdiles). I would especially like to welcome our new teammate, Cole, and our returning Soccerdile teammate Julia. Glad to have you both join the team.

I would also like to thank our interim coaches for stepping up and being ready for our first game. Unfortunately it was rained out. The good news is that everything seems to be a go for our first practice this evening.

We are officially practicing Tuesdays, 6:15 to 7:00 at Columbia Seminary field #2 . That being said I would like to start our practice at 6:05 instead so everyone can get home bath, brush their teeth and get to sleep at a decent hour (including myself). There is a practice that ends at 6:00 right before us. The practice location is just a few blocks South (on South Columbia) from Winnona Elementary fields where we play our games.

The full roster of the spring 2010 Soccerdiles:
Michael Alston II
Diana Colliins
Avery Grace
Ellis Grace
Cole Harper
Iylan Howson

As before I will maintain the Soccerdile website where I will post league links, pictures, and what-have-you: http://soccerdiles.blogspot.com/

I am looking forward to another great season. Go Soccerdiles.

Spring Practice Times Confirmed

The comish just confirmed that we will be practicing Tuesdays @ 6:00 at the Columbia Theological Seminary fields off of South Columbia. We will be on Field Three which is the one furthest from Inman Dr. It offers considerably more grass than our field last season.
