Trophy v. Medal v. Pat-on-the-back

Sorry to bombard you so many emails today but I am really trying to avoid a large project that is hanging over my head.

At the end of the year the YMCA provides coaches with information and costs for a recommended trophy distributor that works with the YMCA. The cost of a year-end trophy or medal for the kids is not included in league costs; however, they are usually pretty reasonable. This year being no exception:

3.25 for medals
5.25 for trophies

If everyone is onboard with purchasing an award for the kids I would recommend the medals. They take up less space, cannot be used as easily as a weapon against a sibling or parent yet elicit the same giddy response from the kids as a trophy would. If anyone is not onboard please let me know; otherwise, I will place an order for the team next Monday and we can settle up later.

Pictures this Saturday @ 11:00

Our team and individual pictures will be this Saturday at 11:00. We will be at picture station number 2. Let's plan on meeting at the photo station and then after the pictures going to our field (which is number 1). While we are the "away" team this week and will be wearing gray for the game, please wear the blue for the picture.

I am attaching the TSS forms below.

Picture Day is Sat, April 30th!

From the Commish. Have the kids start practicing their smile.

>>> Kathy Meyer-Frisbey <KathyF@ymcaatlanta.org> 4/15/2011 12:34 PM >>>
Coaches,
Just a heads up that pictures for the Micro age group will be Saturday, April 30th. I will send out the picture schedule in the next week. I am attaching a pdf of the picture envelope and order form so you can forward on to your parents to review. Parents can view the different items that are available for purchase and the prices and then fill out the order form and print out and bring with them. Remind your parents to bring their purses or wallets on picture day as payment is required at the time of order. Also we will hand out picture envelopes on the field on Saturday to all coaches so you can give out hard copies to your parents also.

Pictures are fun and very entertaining for the little ones. Please promote the picture process and encourage parents to participate. Please remind them that the photography company will donate a portion of proceeds back to the Soccer department for scholarships for players the next season. By participating in pictures they are helping to scholarship a future player!

Also all coaches will receive a free team photo for volunteering!

If you have any questions please let me know. Thanks.

Fwd: Traffic Alert for Winnona Park Field & Pending Weather.....

Another note from the Commish:

>>> Kathy Meyer-Frisbey <KathyF@ymcaatlanta.org> 4/15/2011 1:24 PM >>>
Coaches,
Heads up - Winnona Park Homeowners association is having a neighborhood garage sale tomorrow, Saturday, April 16th. This will cause extra traffic in the area during soccer games. Please pass along this information to your parents and warn them that they will need extra time for parking and may have to park farther away than normal tomorrow.

Pending Weather - We are expecting big storms tonight in the Atlanta area. Will we have soccer games in the morning? It all depends on how much RAIN we receive tonight. If not too much then we will play on. If we get a substantial amount then we will either DELAY games by an hour or two to let fields dry out - or CANCEL games all together. Which means we will have to add another weekend to the schedule. Jr. Micros and Micros already have games scheduled on May 14th so we would have to go to May 21st. I am trying to avoid this so we will try to play if possible. Be sure to check the Weather Hotline or Soccer Website if you are not on Status Me. I will make the decision by 7:45 am and will have all things updated by 8:00 am.

DDY Soccer Program to participate in Shoebox Project!!

Please find below a note by the Commish. If you are interested in participating I would be happy to gather the boxes at practice and/or the games. If you have questions please direct them to Kathy or Rachel.
tkm

Coaches,
We have a great opportunity for you and your team to give back to the community and raise money for the DDY Soccer Scholarship Program. Comcast has partnered with the United way on their annual Shoebox project. For this project, we are collecting decorated boxes filled with toiletries for homeless women and children in our community. For each box that you wrap and fill, Comcast will donate a volunteer grant to the soccer program. If everyone participates, we have an opportunity to raise over $3000 for the program! (115 Rec Teams, 15 Academy teams, and 3 Select teams - if every team donated just two boxes we could raise over $3000!!)

This is a great way to get involved in the community and raise money for the DDY Soccer program. Please help by participating and spreading the word. There is no limit to how many boxes each team or child/family can donate. Everyone in the family is welcome to participate, and every box will count towards the grant that Comcast will donate to the YMCA.

Please fill, wrap and bring your boxes into the YMCA by May 4th. Coaches can collect boxes at practices and games and give to YMCA Soccer staff at games or bring to the soccer office at the YMCA.

See below for items needed and specifics.

Please call or email Kathy Meyer-Frisbey or Rachel Ozias with any questions.

2011 United Way Shoebox Project:
Each year, individuals and companies throughout the metro area donate shoeboxes filled with toiletries for homeless women and children in our community. Last year, together we donated more than 15,000 shoeboxes that were distributed to more than 80 homeless shelters across the 13-county region. Join us this year in our fight against homelessness while helping children in your community by giving them the opportunity to play soccer!

Practice Tuesday

Weather permitting, I am going to hold soccer practice this Tuesday at 5:30. I know people may be traveling for spring break. If so, I am jealous; have fun. This practice is voluntary and just an opportunity for the kids that are still around to kick the ball around rather than going two weeks without soccer. Practice will be at our same practice field at Columbia Theological Seminary fields.
